Tadpole Shrimp, Triops longicaudatus are freshwater crustaceans that are found living in the water of rice crops in Northern California. Their presence in these crops has posed an issue for farmers as these shrimp feed on the roots of the stalks, leading to the depletion of the harvest. Much is unknown about the physiology of these crustaceans. Respirometry and thermal lethality tests are used to measure the thermal tolerance, metabolic rate and critical locomotive capacity of the shrimp. Using this data we can provide insights on at which temperature is optimal for the shrimp to become more susceptible to control methods.
