We study the optical properties of nanoscopic, dielectric slot waveguides by numerically solving Maxwell’s equations. Eigenmode analysis is used to characterize the waveguide over a range of parameters, and 3-dimensional simulations of dipole radiation guidance is used to estimate the effective quantum yield of the system. The waveguides are selected for their optical properties, as well as their geometric ability to integrate with a nanotip fluorescence enhancement device. Lastly, we compute 3-dimensional simulations of the waveguide-nanotip environment, calculate the field enhancement at the location of the dipole, and the evaluate the effective quantum yield of the enhanced system.
