University law enforcement officers experience unique occupational stressors, including exposure to critical incidents, which may contribute to burnout and impact retention rates. This study explores the relationship between critical incidents and burnout in university police departments across the United States, with a focus on how trauma-informed wellness programs may mitigate these effects. Using a survey-based approach, the research examines levels of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment among officers, while assessing the accessibility and perceived effectiveness of mental health resources. Findings from this study will provide insights into the role of trauma-informed care in reducing burnout and improving officer well-being, ultimately informing policy and program development to enhance retention and mental health support within university law enforcement agencies.
