In this study, we investigate how likely it is that antimicrobial resistance genes in Exiguobacterium were acquired through horizontal gene transfer. Using an insertion sequence finder and a gene identifier, we were able to find sequences that were closely related to multiple other bacteria. Our results indicate locations of interest in the sequence that will be used as a reference when antimicrobial resistance genes are found. These findings are significant because we can now determine which genes were possibly acquired through horizontal gene transfer and ultimately enhance knowledge of this bacterial species.
