Xiaorong Zhang Wins Diversity Paper Award at Engineering Education Conference

Congratulations to Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering, Xiaorong Zhang, and her students for winning the Diversity Paper Award at the 2018 American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) Pacific Southwest Zone IV Conference last month!

Her paper describes an engineering research internship program the School of Engineering at SF State coordinated with Cañada College, bringing five community college students into Zhang’s lab for 10 weeks.

Under the mentorship of Zhang and Alex David, a graduate research assistant, the students developed and tested a mobile application for recognizing human gestures and gained valuable research experience. SF State Engineering faculty members Wenshen Pong, Zhaoshuo Jiang, Cheng Chen, Kwok-Siong Teh, Hamid Mahmoodi and Hao Jiang co-authored the paper.
